Growing Up Outside

For board member Erin Lopez, Summer Camp at Reflection Riding is part of her family’s story. Erin attended camp here as a child and still remembers a day spent sliding and playing in the mud pit with friends, an experience she describes as a “core childhood memory.”

Today, her daughter Paloma makes memories of her own in the same woods, waterways, and open spaces. We often hear stories like Erin’s. So many adults in our community remember coming to Reflection Riding as children, and now a new generation experiences that same freedom to explore, follow their curiosity, build friendships, and simply be a kid in nature.

Summer Camp has continued to grow year after year, reflecting the value families place on meaningful time outside. In a world where children’s days can feel increasingly structured and screen-filled, experiences that offer room to explore, get messy, follow curiosity, and build confidence in nature feel more important than ever. This year, our largest Summer Camp season to date welcomed nearly 500 campers. We were also able to offer more scholarships than ever before, thanks to donors and sponsors who helped make camp accessible to more families. Partnerships with local organizations and schools are helping us reach even more children and create new pathways to experience camp.

We are grateful to Volkswagen, McKee Foods, Gearhead Outfitters, Bridge Financial Planning, and the many camp families and supporters whose generosity helped make the season possible. Their support helps ensure that more children can spend their summers exploring, getting muddy, and creating the kinds of memories that may one day become part of their own family stories.
