Benefits of Outdoor Play

Summer camp isn't only an exciting learning opportunity; This article from the National Wildlife Federation details how outdoor play can have several beneficial effects on your child’s mind and body.
Time spent playing in dirt can be significantly beneficial. By exposing the immune system to natural bacteria and other inhabitants of the dirt, immunity builds over time, ultimately leading to a healthier, more resistant life.
Through dirt’s cathartic, grounding effects, time spent digging around reduces anxiety and stress and can even positively impact classroom performance.
The body’s clock is built to follow the sun, meaning higher energy levels after exposure to bright natural light.
Playing outside all day is a quick way to tucker an excited child out, but there are even more benefits after the sun goes down. Exposure to sunlight all day reinforces the body's signals that it's time for bed, leading to a better night’s sleep.
Outdoor play is inherently physical and an incredible way to incorporate more exercise into children’s lives. The many different activities and types of play can help to improve muscle strength and flexibility.
