Join us to learn more about the fascinating and reclusive yellow-billed cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) and the research she conducted on our property from field biologist and UTC adjunct Laura Marsh.

This summer, Laura worked with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center to attach satellite tags to yellow-billed cuckoos. This is quite a novel study: the transmitters report real-time data on the locations of the birds.

The team tagged birds in the Eastern US in three locations: Texas, Chattanooga, and Illinois. The data will help researchers determine migratory connectivity and habitat use of cuckoos and other neotropical migrants. Come join Laura at Reflection Riding to hear more about her work and findings. Photo from an observation on our property from Mark McKnight. See more and share your observations on iNaturalist.
