Nursery Cohort

For native plant enthusiasts

Time Commitment: 12 hours per season requested

Season: Spring, Summer, and/or Fall

Experience: Ages 18+; no prior plant experience required

Join Reflection Riding’s Seed Team and help support our Native Plant Programs through plant scouting, ethical seed collection, and seed processing. Volunteers play an important role in helping us grow locally sourced native plants for habitat restoration, education, and nursery programs.

There are three ways to participate:

1. Reflection Riding-Led Adventures

Join our Naturalists for on-campus and off-site plant scouting trips in the Greater Chattanooga area, or help process seeds in the nursery. Activities typically last 2–4 hours, and volunteers select opportunities from a posted schedule.

2. Self-Led Scouting

Already planning hikes this summer or fall? Have access to private land with undisturbed wild spaces? Help us keep watch for plants on our target species list and tag sightings in our mapping software. Volunteers coordinate one-on-one with a Reflection Riding Naturalist to determine plant lists and scouting locations.

3. Both!

Volunteers are welcome to participate in both Reflection Riding-led and self-led opportunities.

This is an active outdoor role. Participants should feel comfortable walking up to 4 miles on varied trail conditions and in changing weather. A one-hour, in-person training session on ethical plant scouting and seed collection is required.

Reflection Riding-Led: Activities primarily take place Wednesdays and Fridays from July–October, generally between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Schedule posted in July.

Self-Led: Flexible. We coordinate scouting locations with you, and you choose when to adventure.
