Invasive Plant Species Removal
For nature warriors
Time Commitment: No recurring time commitment required
Experience: No prior plant experience required
Volunteers will work alongside our staff to manage and eradicate invasive plant species so that native plants can thrive and ecosystems can support all the important wildlife on campus. Depending on experience and comfort level, invasive removal volunteers will help us manage invasive plant species either mechanically (removing by hand or with tools) or chemically (treating with glyphosate or tryclopyr), depending on the time of year and the location of the work on a given day. Opportunities can range from light weed pulling near the welcome center to cutting down large privet trees deep in the woods. Volunteers can also then take the skills they learn (invasive plant identification as well as best practices for removal) to their homes and their communities and help restore native habitats where they live.
Schedule:
Wednesday and Friday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
We also host Project ReWild, a volunteer program featuring hands-on habitat restoration through invasive removal and native planting! This program occurs every Saturday at 9 AM—visit here to register.
