Project ReWild

Restore natural habitats as you learn about invasive species and how to combat them with native plants.

Habitat restoration is a continuous commitment to nature. In this volunteer workshop, you’ll learn all about the cyclical nature of invasive species and how to combat them through hands-on removal and native plants. You’ll learn how to identify and properly remove common invasive plants, in addition to how native species restore the balance of a habitat. After an on-site invasive removal and native planting, you can bring the knowledge back into your own space for the rewilding of our region. Invasive species harm wildlife because they crowd out native plants, which provide food and shelter. The Eastern Box Turtle, for example, fails to thrive in areas where Microstegium (an invasive grass) has taken over. By removing harmful species, you help native wildlife and habitats flourish!

Participants also receive a 10% discount on a plant in our Native Plant Nursery to encourage area-wide restoration. Recurring participants can receive a punch card to work toward a free plant with each participation.

Come prepared for outdoor work—wear closed-toed shoes, long sleeves, pants, and a hat. Don’t forget water, sunscreen, and anything else you need to stay comfortable. We recommend bringing your own work gloves, although we’ll have extras on hand.

Important: All participants must sign our general liability waiver before registering. Adults must sign individually, and parents/legal guardians must sign for any participating minors.
