Nursery Workshop: Propagation Intensive

Learn about the science behind successful propagation methods with our Nursery Team!

Did you know that the work of a thriving native plant garden begins long before spring arrives? Fall and winter play a critical role in the life cycle of many native species, and the actions gardeners take between September and November can greatly improve germination, plant health, and garden success in the seasons ahead.

Join Lead Naturalists Hannah McLaren and Lauren Russek for a hands-on workshop exploring native plant propagation techniques and seasonal garden preparation. Participants will learn about seed starting and planning, indoor and outdoor cold stratification techniques, the role of vernalization in native plant growth, and best practices for caring for garden spaces during the colder months. We'll also cover propagation methods, such as taking cuttings and dividing plants, and share practical tips and lessons learned from managing Reflection Riding’s Native Plant Nursery.

Whether you're new to gardening or looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers valuable knowledge and techniques you can apply in home gardens of any stage or size.

Participants will also go home with some seed trays, plants, and cuttings to continue practicing these techniques.

As an outdoor facility, our programs and events are almost always dependent on the weather. In the event of severe weather, programs may have to be canceled.

We are also a force-free facility, so if one of our animal ambassadors isn't interested in participating in a program, we'll respect that and offer our audience a great alternative. We appreciate your understanding if your program changes.
