Master Gardeners of Hamilton County “Native Plants for Wildlife” Series: Transforming Gardens into Sanctuaries: The Power of Butterfly and Moth Conservation
Learn about the beneficial key players of nature, butterflies and moths!
Join Master Gardener and ecological landscape advocate, Ann Brown, for an informative and inspiring talk on transforming ordinary yards into thriving sanctuaries for pollinators and people. Learn how butterfly and moth gardens boost pollination, provide vital habitats, and support local biodiversity.
Ann will present practical guidance, including recommendations for native plants that attract moths and butterflies in the Southeast and strategies for designing gardens that thrive across three seasons. She will discuss environmentally conscious gardening techniques that contribute meaningfully to conservation efforts. Attendees will learn how their landscapes can foster a more attractive and healthier environment for all.
Ann is based on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, where she’s cultivated a certified Butterfly Garden and Wildlife Habitat. She promotes pesticide-free pollinator gardens through organizations such as Bee City USA, TN Valley Chapter of Wild Ones, and supports broader biodiversity initiatives like Homegrown National Park and Tennessee Smart Yards. Ann maintains community gardens, writes for regional publications, and has received multiple honors, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, a DAR Conservation Award, and recognition from the North American Butterfly Association for her yard’s exceptional biodiversity and butterfly conservation efforts.
