Lead Naturalist

Kayla was born and raised just north of Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up spending her entire summers at summer camp in North Georgia, fishing with her dad and playing outside every chance she got. Her family always called her their treehugger because she always said when she grew up she wanted to help save the planet.

Kayla attended the University of Georgia from 2015-2019 where she graduated with a bachelors and double majors in Wildlife Biology and in Natural Resources, Recreation, and Tourism (NRRT) from the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources.

After graduating, Kayla started her career working a variety of seasonal field technician jobs that had her moving all around the southeast. She started as a sea turtle intern in Everglades National Park with the National Park Service. After that she worked on the Gopher Tortoise Crew with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. She then moved to Jekyll Island where she worked with the Georgia Sea Turtle Center as a sea turtle nighttime tagging supervisor. Her love of all things coastal moved her to Apalachicola in the Florida Panhandle where she worked with Audubon Florida as a shorebird biologist. Finally, this past year she worked with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge as a biological technician where she supervised the sea turtle project.

Kayla has a passion for wildlife and all things nature related and always enjoyed the opportunistic education aspects of her previous work. She hopes to bring her knowledge from past field experience into her position here as a naturalist with Reflection Riding to share her passion for nature and wildlife to others.

When not working as a Lead Naturalist, you can find Kayla hiking, perfecting her sourdough bread, practicing yoga, and thrifting for hidden treasures.
