Build an Incredible Native Garden

Indian Pinks (Spigelia marilandica) at Reflection Riding this spring.

“Native plants don't need care. They grow naturally in Tennessee's environment. They would be growing wild in this area with or without me.”

- Karen Hill, President of the TN Native Plant Society

The changing of seasons is upon us, so stop by our Native Plant Nursery now to beat the heat of summer. Native plants are the foundation and backbone of our ecosystems - they offer biodiversity from the ground up! They provide our native wildlife shelter, food, and habitat that they need to not only survive, but to thrive. Not to mention - they are gorgeous and offer a wild beauty you can’t find anywhere else. Indian Pinks (Spigelia marilandica) are currently in bloom all over our campus. Stop by soon to see this stunning native perennial.

Read more about why Karen chose to fill her incredible backyard garden with native plants, such as Copper Irises and Beard Tongues, here. We have lots of opportunities to learn more about Tennessee’s rich biodiversity and the importance of gardening with natives. You can learn more about these programs on our Events page here. Join us for fun, outdoor programs to learn more about using native plants in your gardens.

During the growing season, visit the nursery Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm ET and our top-notch plant team will be there to help you. Check out all the inventory and more on our Native Plan Nursery page here. You can also contact the nursery team by email anytime. Happy planting!
