Name Coming Soon

Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

Born: estimated 2018 (exact date is unknown) Arrival Date: TBA from Tullahoma, TN

(Name Coming Soon) is a stunning bird with a very unique coloration for her species. She is a leucistic Red-tailed Hawk. Leucism is a partial loss of pigmentation in an animal, which often results in varying degrees of white or pale colors in an animal’s fur, feathers, scales, or skin. This condition is different from albinism because the eyes and some areas may retain their color, while albinism is a complete lack of pigment. As a uniquely large bird for her species, there’s a possibility that she was born in the Midwest region and relocated to the Southeast.

She entered our care after undergoing nearly a year of rehab for a gunshot wound to her left wing. She is non-releasable due to this injury and several minor ones that deem her unfit to thrive in the wild.

Although she is still new to Reflection Riding, she is a very calm bird who has already taken well to her initial training. As she gets settled with us here, we’re excited to see her personality develop and take flight!
