Old Barred

Barred Owl (Strix varia)

Born: unknown Arrival Date: August 14, 2003, from individual rescuer

Old Barred is a wise old owl—so wise, in fact, that we do not know his age! He entered into our care from an injured wing due to car strike. In the Southeast, Barred Owls are the most common species of owl you will find. You can use the mnemonic “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?” to learn their call.

Old Barred is visible to the public in our Native Animal Exhibit. He can be viewed during our Wild Wonders: A Close Encounter with Native Animals tour every Friday and Saturday.
