Icarus

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

Born: unknown Arrival Date: April 14, 2003, from Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, FL

Icarus is a majestic bird who entered our care due to a broken wing—at the time, he had a fully white head, which means he was already at least 7 years old! Bald Eagles are often mistaken for their calls. When you hear one of these birds on TV, the sound you actually hear is typically the call of a Red-tailed Hawk! Bald Eagles emit a series of high-pitched whistling notes, rather than the fearsome screech of the hawk.

Icarus is visible to the public in our Native Animal Exhibit. He can be viewed during our Wild Wonders: A Close Encounter with Native Animals tour every Friday and Saturday.
