Echo

American Barn Owl (Tyto furcata)

Born: estimated April 1, 2016 (exact date is unknown) Arrival Date: September 25, 2018, from Wynnwood Wildlife Rehabilitation in Elizabethton, TN

As a barn owl, Echo is nocturnal and spends most of the daylight hours resting. His extraordinary talents shine at night, as his species has the best hearing of any other land animal in North America! This means that Echo is a master hunter and can hear a mouse’s heartbeat from 30 feet away!

Echo is visible to the public in our Native Animal Exhibit. He can be viewed during our Wild Wonders: A Close Encounter with Native Animals tour every Friday and Saturday. Upon arrival, you will likely see him towards the back of his home, as he prefers little interaction.
