Forest Homeschool at Reflection Riding
Forest Homeschool at Reflection Riding develops children, ages 6-13, into naturalists through weekly programming. We focus on learning about the natural world through exploration and education. Students learn how to identify several native species, develop wilderness skills, make observations, and gather data. Trained naturalists lead the program to ensure we reach all learning objectives while providing the students the freedom to explore the forest… in their own way!
Homeschool Age Groups
Ages 6-8: Explorers will learn to explore the forest with purpose. Students will begin the process of becoming a Naturalist within our Forest Homeschool and gain the experience and knowledge needed to achieve this goal. They will start learning the basics of species identification, structure and function, and outdoor survival skills.
Ages 9-11: Investigators will build on the basics they learn as an Explorer. Students will become competent in multiple disciplines as they work toward becoming Naturalists within our Forest Homeschool. They will become proficient in species identification and transition from collecting information and drawings in a nature journal, to recording data and documenting observations in a field journal.
Ages 12-13: Becoming a Naturalist in our Forest Homeschool will introduce students to new and exciting leadership roles. They will increase their expertise in species habitats, characteristics, and identifications. They will become comfortable collecting data, making independent observations, and cataloging species they have become experts in identifying.
2023 School Year Schedule & Cost
Classes begin on Thursday, August 10, 2023, and end on Tuesday, May 22, 2024.
For the Fall 2023 Semester, we are only offering the AM session. We will offer a PM session if we get interest from a minimum of five participants.
AM Session: Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30-12:00
PM Session: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30-4:00
Ages: 6-13 years old
Cost (per student): $260 monthly or $2,600 for the school year for members; $275 monthly or $2,750 for the school year for non-members. You can join or renew your membership here for a discounted rate on Forest Homeschool!

“This will be my 4th year attending Forest Homeschool. My favorite part of Forest Homeschool has been learning about invasive plant species. Over the years I have learned so much about how they harm the natural ecosystem. At Forest Homeschool we have cleared areas where privet and other invasive plants have taken over. It has made me so happy to see native plants come back to life and flourish and know that I am making a difference in restoring the land at Reflection Riding. I also love exploring in the forest with my friends. It is so much fun. I feel like I have the most beautiful classroom in the world.”
