The caretaker’s house was built about 1954 from cedar logs – hauled in from South Alabama. Original cost of the house was about $4,500. Mr. John insisted on a slate roof which was too heavy for the construction and roof rafters. This ran the cost up on the house – and boy – did he howl!!! And he stopped the construction – we finally proceeded with only the basics. We have since added a room and some improvements.
