For those who love spring ephemerals, Wildflower Cove is a paradise. It lies hidden along the west side of Reflection Lane just where the road enters the forest at the buffalo field. This small space contains all the ingredients for spectacular bloom and has been nurtured by the loving hands of many of those devoted to Reflection Riding over the decades.
Be sure to keep an eye out for these species which lurk in the corners of the cove: Enemion biternatum – False Rue Anemone; Dentaria spp. – Toothworts; Erythronium americanum – Trout Lily; Thalictrum thalictroides – Rue Anemone; Mertensia virginica – Virginia Bluebells; Pachisandra procumbens – Allegheny Spurge; Tiarella cordifolia – Foamflower; Phlox divaricata – Blue Phlox; Dodecatheon meadia – Shooting Star; Amsonia tabernaemontana – Blue Star; Spigelia marilandica – Indian Pink; and Phlox maculata – Wild Sweet William.
