The Garden was dedicated to the memory of P. Robert Philp in 1995. Bob was an outstanding citizen who made significant contributions to the community, and he did it in a special way. People loved him for his generosity of both spirit and substance but also for his integrity, modesty, humor, fine mind and dedication to family, church and community. Reflection Riding is honored to be chosen by Katherine, Bob Jr., and Clara as a place for remembrance.
A woodland area at the intersection of the Highwater and Creek Roads was chosen as the site for an ericaceous garden when our Master plan for Conservation and Development was adopted in 1982. It is accessible by car, with space for parking nearby, and is on the Profile Trail, created for walkers. Paths circle through the plantings to permit visitors a close viewing of the various species. Each species is labeled for ease of identification, study and comparison.
A teak bench is centrally located in the Philp Memorial Rhododendron Garden and overlooks the meadow. This peaceful spot provides visitors the opportunity for reflection and meditation while enjoying the beauty of nature surrounding them – an inspirational place.
