Reptiles and amphibians represent an important facet of Southeastern fauna. The presence or absence of reptiles and amphibians, collectively known as herptiles, can serve as bio-indicators for researchers, developers, and educators to assess the health of an ecosystem. As well as providing an important food source for larger predatory animals, reptiles and amphibians play a vital role in keeping pest insect and rodent populations in check. The collection at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center offers a wonderful sampling of the rich diversity of herpetofauna in our region.
