In our group of animal ambassadors occupying the Wildlife Wanderland, perhaps the best-known are our mammals.
We have a Bobcat, a Southern Flying Squirrel, a Virginia Opossum, a Woodchuck, and the highly-endangered Red Wolves. When you visit the Wanderland, you may be see the Bobcat fishing in his pond on a summer day, or hear the Red Wolves howl at trains or sirens far out on the highway in the afternoon.
Nice to Know:
The Oxford Dictionary defines a mammal as: “A warm-blooded vertebrate animal of a class that is distinguished by the possession of hair or fur, the secretion of milk by females for the nourishment of the young, and (typically) the birth of live young.” –Oxford Dictionary online.
